Talascend is currently seeking an OpenShift Virtualization Administrator for a contract opportunity with our client in Washington, District Of Columbia.
Overview
This role leads enterprise virtualization operations on Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization in support of a government contract and infrastructure mission. The position involves designing, administering, and optimizing OpenShift Virtualization to deliver secure, resilient, and high-performing virtual machine services, supporting migration from VMware to OpenShift Virtualization.
Responsibilities
- Lead administrative and design activities for OpenShift Virtualization deployed on the OpenShift Container Platform.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain the OpenShift Virtualization operator, KubeVirt components, CDI, and associated cluster services.
- Manage full VM lifecycle operations including provisioning, live migration, cloning, snapshots, patching, and decommissioning.
- Configure VM networking and storage to meet performance and availability requirements.
- Monitor platform health, performance, and capacity; troubleshoot complex issues across cluster and guest layers.
- Coordinate incident triage, escalation, and service restoration within a 24x7 environment.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge articles for platform operation and incident management.
- Lead technical teams supporting daily operations and migration activities, managing workloads and priorities.
- Enforce security standards and compliance in line with federal requirements.
- Plan and execute VMware-to-OpenShift Virtualization migration waves, including cutover and validation.
- Apply infrastructure-as-code principles and maintain audit-ready documentation for configurations and migration records.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 9-12 years of experience supporting enterprise virtualization technology, including hands-on experience with OpenShift Virtualization / KubeVirt or similar.
- Experience leading technical teams and managing virtualization operations.
- Proficient in administering Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and RHEL systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across multiple infrastructure layers.
- Must meet citizenship and security clearance requirements, including ability to obtain and maintain a SEC Public Trust clearance.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with VMware-to-OpenShift Virtualization migrations using the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization.
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) on RHEL 9 or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
- OpenShift administration training such as DO180, DO280, and/or DO380.
- Experience with Argo CD / OpenShift GitOps and Ansible Automation Platform.
- Knowledge of OpenShift Data Foundation / Ceph storage administration.
- VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV).
- Experience supporting federal agencies and hybrid infrastructure environments.
- ITIL 4 Foundation or similar service management certification.
The work environment involves hybrid on-site support at SEC facilities in Washington, DC, with occasional participation in on-call or surge activities, and travel as required.
