Talascend is currently seeking a Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Framingham, Massachusetts.
Overview
The role involves designing and managing electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground projects, in urban environments. The position offers opportunities for professional development through various certifications and mentorship programs, with a focus on ensuring high-quality engineering standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements
- Assess and develop design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments
- Create permit documents, easements, and ROW applications
- Support activities such as work permit development, system protection, and coordination
- Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop, and flicker
- Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and develop mitigation strategies
- Travel to sites as needed for inspections and field work
Qualifications
- Completed Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
- Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work outdoors occasionally
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar
- Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS
- Experience with NESC standards
- Knowledge of design standards
