Talascend is seeking an experienced traveling Field Quality Technician (IQC) to support the installation, inspection, testing, and commissioning of automated material handling and conveyor systems within large warehouse and distribution center environments.
The Field Quality Technician will be responsible for verifying that mechanical and electrical installations meet project specifications, drawings, quality standards, and customer requirements. This position will work closely with installation crews, electrical and mechanical leads, project management, and commissioning teams to identify deficiencies, document issues, and ensure systems are ready for testing and startup.
Key Responsibilities
Perform field quality inspections of conveyor and material handling system installations, including mechanical and electrical components.
Inspect conveyor equipment, structural steel, guarding, motors, belts, rollers, sensors, photo eyes, controls, wiring, and related equipment for proper installation.
Review engineering drawings, layouts, specifications, installation standards, and project documentation to verify installation accuracy.
Identify installation deficiencies, safety concerns, and workmanship issues and document findings through punch lists, inspection reports, photographs, and tracking logs.
Work directly with mechanical and electrical installation teams to communicate required corrections and verify completed rework.
Support testing and commissioning activities, including equipment checkout, component verification, system testing, and troubleshooting.
Assist with pre-functional and functional testing of conveyor and automated material handling equipment.
Verify proper operation of motors, drives, sensors, photo eyes, safety devices, emergency stops, controls, and conveyor equipment during testing.
Support commissioning teams in identifying mechanical, electrical, controls, and installation-related issues that may prevent successful startup.
Maintain accurate quality documentation and provide regular status updates to project leadership.
Participate in daily coordination meetings and communicate quality, testing, and commissioning concerns.
Ensure work is performed in accordance with OSHA, customer, project, and site-specific safety requirements.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in material handling, conveyor installation, industrial construction, or field quality control.
Experience inspecting conveyor systems or automated material handling equipment.
Hands-on understanding of mechanical and/or electrical conveyor installation.
Previous experience with testing, startup, commissioning, or troubleshooting of material handling systems.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings, layouts, schematics, and installation documentation.
Strong understanding of installation quality, workmanship, tolerances, and project specifications.
Ability to identify problems in the field and clearly document deficiencies and corrective actions.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently in an active construction/installation environment.
Willingness to travel and work extended hours, including weekends, when required by the project.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ASRS, sortation, unit sorters, shoe sorters, VFDs, MDR conveyor, belt conveyor, roller conveyor, and automated distribution systems
Experience with FAT/SAT, IO checkout, commissioning checklists, punch lists, and turnover documentation.
Electrical or mechanical trade background.
Previous experience as a Field Quality Inspector, QA/QC Technician, Mechanical Lead, Electrical Lead, Commissioning Technician, or Conveyor Installation Lead.
Travel Requirements
100% travel to warehouse and distribution center projects.
Travel, lodging, and per diem provided according to project requirements.
Ability to work in large-scale warehouse environments and remain on site for the duration of assigned projects.
