Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Pontiac, Michigan.
Overview
The role involves performing testing procedures and data collection in a laboratory setting focused on transmission and electric drive unit components. The technician will install instrumentation, review testing data, and collaborate with testing engineers to ensure quality and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Set up and tear down test articles and instrumentation for testing processes
- Collect, review, and validate testing data to ensure accuracy and quality standards
- Interface with engineering team, providing updates on testing procedures and methods
- Conduct both procedural and non-procedural testing of transmission and drive unit components
- Install instrumentation and perform diagnostics
- Develop standard work for new testing procedures
- Apply problem-solving techniques to improve testing processes and outcomes
Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree in automotive or related field
- At least 3 years of automotive repair and troubleshooting experience
- Hands-on experience with setup and installation of component/subsystem testing
- Strong mechanical skills and familiarity with hand tools
- Proficiency with transmission and drive unit internals
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot testing equipment and components
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Red Viking control software (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience measuring and photographing microscopic damage (pitting, erosion, wear)
- Experience working in a lean work environment emphasizing standard work and waste elimination
The shift for this role is 1st shift, 7AM – 3:30PM with flexible start times between 6-7AM. The position is onsite five days a week in Pontiac, MI.
