Talascend is currently seeking a Supplier Quality Inspector for a long-term contract opportunity with our client in Boston, MA.

Overview

This role involves performing quality surveillance activities at supplier and vendor facilities to ensure compliance with project and industry standards. The inspector verifies, monitors, and documents supplier-furnished materials and equipment, collaborating with suppliers to address nonconformances and ensure quality requirements are met.

Responsibilities

  • Perform visits to supplier and vendor shops to conduct quality surveillance activities.
  • Verify, through observation, document review, witnessing examinations and tests, and hands-on inspection, that materials and equipment conform to recognized codes, standards, and procurement documents.
  • Reject nonconforming material and document conditions objectively with photographic evidence.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and project quality personnel to resolve nonconformances and ensure proper disposition of issues.
  • Review supplier documentation such as test reports, traceability records, and qualification certificates for compliance.
  • Verify corrective actions are implemented effectively and follow up on open actions.
  • Release conforming material for shipment and notify relevant teams to coordinate activities.
  • Report surveillance results, progress, and risks to project personnel and management through timely reports.
  • Support remote surveillance activities utilizing digital tools, video collaboration, and 3D scanning technologies.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, findings, certifications, and photographic documentation in project systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1,000 hours of in-shop surveillance, examination, or testing activities, or
  • Associate Degree or two years of college coursework in a related discipline plus 500 hours of relevant experience, or
  • Two years of related experience involving at least 2,000 hours of in-shop activities.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel routinely within the area.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary access requirements for suppliers and facility protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under moderate supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear surveillance reports.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, report submission, and digital photography.
  • Experience with materials such as structural steel, piping, pressure vessels, electrical equipment, or coatings.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards like ASME, AWS, API, and SSPC standards.
  • Industry certifications such as ASNT Level II, AWS Certified Welding Inspector, or NACE coating inspector.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, or NQA-1 quality programs.
  • Experience in energy, nuclear, LNG, mining, or infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to work safely in industrial environments with exposure to noise, heat, cold, dust, and moving equipment.
  • Physical ability to climb, work at heights, enter confined spaces, and carry inspection equipment.
