Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Geotechnical Field Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Clay, New York.
Overview
This role involves providing on-site engineering leadership and supervision for deep foundation and earthwork construction at a large-scale semiconductor manufacturing facility. The position requires field-based oversight of drilled shaft construction, ground improvement, and earthwork activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site technical supervision during drilled shaft installation socketed into rock, verifying location, plumbness, diameter, and embedment against specifications.
- Verify rock socket conditions, including rock type and quality, sidewall roughness, and base cleanout, coordinating with engineering on deviations.
- Observe and document reinforcement cage fabrication and placement, concreting operations, and review quality records.
- Support and witness drilled shaft load testing programs, ensuring calibration and proper documentation.
- Supervise earthwork and ground improvement activities, verifying excavations, subgrade, and granular fill placement and compaction.
- Review field and laboratory test results, coordinate remediation as needed, and support geotechnical investigations and design reviews.
- Identify construction issues early, coordinate corrective actions, and maintain detailed field documentation.
- Track scope and schedule, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior staff on site.
- Lead investigation of nonconformances and recommend corrective actions.
Qualifications
- M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive related experience; Ph.D. is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the U.S. is required.
- Demonstrated field experience supporting deep foundation and earthwork construction, especially drilled shafts and ground improvement techniques.
- Working knowledge of earthwork practices, quality control, load testing, and field documentation.
- Ability to interpret geotechnical drawings and specifications; familiarity with relevant geotechnical software and Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a construction environment.
- Willing and able to travel and remain at the jobsite in New York and other U.S. sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- PE registration in New York, or ability to obtain by comity.
- Experience on industrial, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, energy, or infrastructure projects.
- Prior involvement in drilled shaft or pile load testing programs.
- Experience with ground improvement techniques such as deep mixing, stone columns, or similar methods.
- Hands-on experience with quality assurance protocols and occupational health and safety standards.
