Talascend is currently seeking a Power Plant Engineering Director for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Boston, Massachusetts.

Overview

The engineering director will provide technical leadership and oversight for all engineering aspects of power generation facility development. This role supports the full lifecycle of power plant projects, ensuring safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective power generation facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all engineering activities for power generation facility development, including conceptual design, feasibility studies, and detailed design management across multiple disciplines.
  • Oversee power plant equipment selection, specification development, and technical evaluation of bids.
  • Manage technical interfaces during procurement and EPC execution, reviewing design deliverables, resolving technical issues, and ensuring compliance with project requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Provide technical direction during construction, commissioning, and startup phases, performing risk assessments and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Interface with internal teams, EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants, and regulatory authorities, supporting contract reviews and technical negotiations.
  • Develop and refine engineering processes, standards, and best practices; contribute to proposals and technology evaluations for new projects.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with applicable codes, environmental regulations, safety standards, and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or related engineering discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • 10–15+ years of progressive experience in power generation engineering, with a focus on power plant development, detailed design, and EPC projects.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role managing engineering teams on multi-discipline projects.
  • Strong experience with gas turbine / CCGT power plants, power island equipment, and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Proven track record in technical management of EPC contractors and equipment suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Experience on owner/developer side or with large-scale projects such as multi-unit gas turbine campuses.
  • Familiarity with data center behind-the-meter power solutions, contract term sheets, performance guarantees, and LDs.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
