Talascend is currently seeking a Sr. Principal Probabilistic Risk Assessment Engineer for a long-term, 100% remote contract career opportunity with our client.

Overview
This role supports the development of Level-1 and Level-2 PRA models for advanced reactor designs, with a focus on the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE). The position involves collaborative engineering work, risk modeling, and ensuring regulatory compliance within a multi-disciplinary team environment.


Responsibilities
  • Lead PRA development efforts supporting reactor design and safety analysis
  • Coordinate PRA work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure PRA aligns with regulatory guidance such as RG 1.233, NEI 18-04, and ASME/ANS standards
  • Develop fault trees, event trees, and containment risk models using CAFTA
  • Perform risk integration and generate importance measures
  • Support design trade studies through focused PRA analyses
  • Contribute to SSC classification, SBE selection, and DID evaluations
  • Participate in hazard analysis and PIRT exercises
  • Guide technical teams on PRA and reliability topics
  • Maintain documentation of models and analytical results
  • Review engineering analyses and design materials

Requirements
  • B.S. in nuclear, mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering with 5+ years’ experience; M.S. with 3+ years; or Ph.D. with 1+ year
  • Proficiency in PRA principles and the ASME/ANS Non-Light Water PRA standard
  • Experience with fault tree/event tree development, preferably using CAFTA
  • Familiarity with safety codes such as GOTHIC, MELCOR, or RADTRAD is a plus
  • Understanding of regulatory guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors (e.g., NEI 18-04)
  • Experience with SFR and/or Molten Salt Reactor safety analysis is highly desirable
  • Strong analytical, modeling, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with NQA-1 and quality assurance processes
  • Software engineering skills and interdisciplinary teamwork experience are a plus
