Talascend is currently seeking a Powertrain Controls Engineer for a contract opportunity located in Auburn Hills, MI.
We are seeking a Powertrain Controls Engineer – Intermediate to join our dynamic team focused on the design and development of production engine control algorithms and software, with an emphasis on engine torque security and vehicle safety systems.

We are seeking a Powertrain Controls Engineer – Intermediate to join our dynamic team focused on the design and development of production engine control algorithms and software, with an emphasis on engine torque security and vehicle safety systems.
- Develop physics-based models of engine airflow, fuel efficiency, and spark efficiency to calculate engine torque and vehicle force
- Design control algorithms for torque and vehicle force requests from multiple systems (driver, transmission, ABS, ACC, etc.)
- Develop engine, transmission, and hybrid motor controller interfaces for safe vehicle force delivery
- Implement eGas-compliant safety monitoring software, including memory corruption detection and microprocessor failure safeguards
- Develop Level 2 safety monitoring software for occupant protection during engine stop/start operations
- Validate controls/software using HIL, MIL, SIL simulation systems and in-vehicle testing
- Simulate CAN network communications using Vector CANalyzer/CANoe
- Perform data capture and analysis using INCA and MDA toolsets
- Conduct initial calibration of torque security control systems
- Support ISO26262 vehicle safety standards, ASIL levels, DFMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ years of automotive controls and software development experience
- Strong embedded software development skills
- Solid understanding of gasoline engine combustion principles
- Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink/TargetLink, C++ programming, and CAN network diagnostics
- Hands-on experience with INCA, MDA, HIL simulation, MIL/SIL/PIL systems
- Fluent in English
- eGas controls development experience
- Experience with Vector tools such as CANalyzer and CANoe
- Familiarity with Autosar architecture
- Experience working in Agile environments
- Creating Simulink models, including simulation, test vector creation, and testing
- C++ programming proficiency
- CAN networking experience, including DBC file interpretation, CANalyzer bus log analysis, and CRC calculations
