Talascend is seeking qualified candidates to apply for a Transmission Lab Test Engineer position located in Auburn Hills, MI.
OVERVIEW:
Transmission Lab Test Engineer to work in a diverse lab environment with support activities including Electrified PowerTrain programs. Test engineer will work with mechanics and product engineers to develop test procedures for electric drive line testing on dynamometers. Candidate must have experience of working on FWD and AWD electric transmission testing including SIEVT, BEV, P1P2 and P1P4 testing. Experience in FWD and RWD powertrain durability testing experience will be helpful. The individual will oversee test schedule development, monitor testing, troubleshooting, process test data and ensure the test cells and equipment are functional and meet our customer requirements. Excellent root cause, diagnostics and corrective action skills are necessary to ensure good test results. The selected candidate will work closely with Product engineers in a team environment within the Transmission Development Lab.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Setting up electric motor dynamometer which includes supervising the installation of motor hardware, power electronics and high-speed data acquisition equipment.
• Test and debug electric motor systems for continuous & peak power specifications in High voltage as well as low voltage applications.
• Perform steady state and dynamic tests including motoring and regeneration operation of electric motors to ensure torque accuracy and reliability.
• Capable of post-processing and analyzing test data to ensure calibration functional objectives are met. Solve hardware, calibration and instrumentation issues as needed.
• Ability to lead and execute technical projects in high voltage dynamometer test environment.
• Support root cause analysis of dynamometers and troubleshoot issues with CAN monitoring, INCA modules and equipment systems. Able to resolve NVH related issues when it comes to electric motors and power inverters.
• Good understanding of the dynamics of powertrain systems, including conventional transmissions as well as electrified power systems.
• Champion a culture of safe work practices, particularly when it comes to safely handling high voltage. Implement safety matrix and software logic for high voltage systems.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Understanding of engine and/or transmission operation, powertrain functions and electrification power flow.
- Minimum of 3-year experience in test automation systems, and dynamometer test schedule development for various vehicle powertrain configurations.
- Strong knowledge of test system controls.
- Must have strong understanding in electric vehicle drive components, energy storage system (E-motors, inverters, Battery, Charger) and interactions between various sub-systems.
- Self-starter with the inherent ability to follow through.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills & ability to work with multiple customer groups.
