Senior Mechanical Test Engineer – Sodium Systems
Our client is currently seeking a Primary Sodium Pump Test Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity working fully remote, based out of Bellevue, WA.
Overview
This role supports the testing and development of the primary sodium pump at a large sodium test facility. The engineer will lead test planning, coordinate cross-functional teams, and contribute to instrumentation and system interface design.
Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary test engineer for the primary sodium pump design and deployment
• Emphasize test planning, execution, and system interface and design
• Coordinate geographically distributed team members including employees, subcontractors, partners, and customers
• Develop and maintain plant-level and system-level requirement and specification documents
• Support digital design tools and configuration management processes
• Lead and support design reviews and resolution of cross-functional technical issues
• Design instrumentation for testing based on data acquisition control hardware and software
• Develop and document test plans, test designs, and test procedures
• Consolidate deliverables from multiple teams
• Ensure effective collaboration between design and test engineers, proactively identifying and closing gaps
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• At least 5 years of test engineering experience preferred
• Experience with alkali metals in a laboratory environment highly desired
• Background in laboratory or industrial environments
• Familiarity with data acquisition and control system integration
• Experience in design and application of experimental hardware and instrumentation
• Proficiency in writing test plans, requirements, and procedures
• Experience with post-processing and documenting experiments
• Hands-on laboratory work including analytical methods and glovebox use
• Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams to develop testing approaches and equipment
• Capable of planning and analyzing complex equipment tests with limited design inputs
• Strong understanding of configuration management and design control tools
• Ability to manage competing objectives and resolve design constraints
• Skilled in managing multiple tasks concurrently
• Excellent communication, technical writing, and presentation abilities
• Self-starter with the ability to lead team efforts with minimal direction
• Experience in the nuclear industry and familiarity with NQA-1 programs preferred
• High degree of trust, integrity, and commitment to teamwork
• Final title and level determined based on qualifications assessment
