Talascend is currently seeking a CAD Designer and Draftsman Manager for a direct hire opportunity with our client in The Woodlands, Texas.

Overview

The CAD Designer and Draftsman Manager uses CAD equipment to provide support to production and engineering by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, diagrams, and tanks and tank adjacent equipment. This is a working manager position responsible for the day-to-day oversight and direction of the drafting team and interns.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of the day-to-day operations of the drafting team and interns
  • Uses computer assisted design/drafting (SolidWorks CAD) equipment and software to develop designs
  • Creates and revises production drawings (detail and assembly drawings)
  • Creates and maintains the drafting schedule based on customer due dates
  • Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project
  • Sketches rough layout of machine and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes
  • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings
  • Drafts detailed Multiview drawings of machine and products
  • Draws finished designs from sketches
  • Maintains Drafting and Engineering Standards
  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining an organized file system for Production Drawings
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining drawings for all standard products
  • Responsible for converting existing production drawings to SolidWorks
  • Communicate with Engineering, Sales and Manufacturing regarding new and revised prints
  • Perform other duties as required by management

Qualifications

  • High School diploma with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in computer aided drafting and math
  • At least 5-7 years of qualified experience

Requirements

  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience with SolidWorks
  • Must possess a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology
  • Must have mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations
  • Must have prior experience with 3D parametric CAD software
  • Must possess strong math and analytical skills
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must be familiar with general product construction and design in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations
  • Must have the ability to make simple decisions and know when to enlist outside aid
