Mechanical Test Technician
Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Test Technician for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
In this role, the Mechanical Test Technician will independently perform a variety of technical tasks working with engineers, scientists, machinists, and other Engineering Technicians in helping to design, fabricate, assemble, and operate components, subassemblies, high temperature flow loops, vessels, piping and final assembly of prototypes and experiments.
Responsibilities
- Execute hands on mechanical testing campaigns in accordance with procedures.
- Conduct all work in per safety and quality guidelines.
- Support the design, procurement, fabrication, installation, troubleshooting and repair of engineering infrastructure and test equipment.
- Repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment.
- Collaborate with internal customers to translate conceptual requirements into actionable test specifications, including design input, instrumentation strategy, and success criteria.
- Define, select, and validate measurement instrumentation including force, displacement, strain, and temperature sensors.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts including fixture design, control system integration, and lab space planning, leveraging technicians, designers, and facility personnel as needed.
- Manage and execute test campaigns from concept through execution and reporting, including test setup, system validation, and post-test analysis.
- Support safe execution of testing activities, which may include working at elevated heights.
- Under the guidance of Senior Test Engineers, support the coordination of testing activities for setup and commissioning of experimental equipment.
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices in order to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- 2 or 4-year technical degree is desired.
- Four years of experience in test operations.
- U.S Citizen
Requirements
- Math - basic algebra, fractions/percentages, unit conversion.
- Knowledge of operation of pumps, electric motors, and motor controls, piping devices, hydraulic control systems, and other mechanical equipment.
- Personal computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets) and other software utilized by the company including Control System Interfaces.
- Strong interpersonal abilities to support team philosophy and strategy.
- Understanding of electrical, radiological and chemical hazards and safety.
- Ability to perform and record results of laboratory tests accurately and by required deadlines.
- Where necessary, able to generate corrective action reports for system issues.
- Read and understand engineered drawings.
- Read meters and gauges correctly.
- LabView experience is a plus.
- Strong communication skills desired.
