Test Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Test Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity with our client onsite in Bellevue OR Everett, WA.
Overview
The role involves focusing on advanced nuclear reactor research and development, reviewing test requirements, designing tests, executing them, and writing reports. The Test Engineer will collaborate with internal and external customers to ensure testing meets requirements and is conducted timely.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the drafting of test requirements
- Author the test design documents, test procedures, test report, and supporting documents
- Collaborate with internal customers to translate conceptual requirements into actionable test specifications, including design input, instrumentation strategy, and success criteria
- Define, select, and validate measurement instrumentation including force, displacement, strain, and temperature sensors
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts including fixture design, control system integration, and lab space planning
- Manage test campaigns from concept through execution and reporting, including test setup, system validation, and post-test analysis
- Support safe execution of testing activities, which may include working at elevated heights
- Support the coordination of testing activities for setup and commissioning of experimental equipment
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of Engineering
- Greater than three (3) years of relevant experience in a testing / research and development environment preferred
Requirements
- Experience with post-processing and documenting experiments
- Experience with multiple types of testing (R&D, Acceptance, Validation, Qualification)
- Experience working with strain, vibration, linear motion, static loading, dynamic loading preferred
- Working on large complex mechanical systems preferred
- Practical understanding of mechanical testing concepts such as force/displacement application, structural deflection, dynamic loading, vibration/impact, and environmental exposure
- Awareness of common dimensional/inspection tools and motion capture technologies
- Ability to handle projects that include multiple objectives and ability to resolve conflicts between objectives
- Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Safety conscience
- Ability to operate within a lightly structured environment where test development requires a mix of standards-based guidance and first-principles problem solving
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as LabVIEW, SolidWorks, Jira/Confluence, and the Microsoft Office 365 suite is preferred
- Strong communication skills desired
