Talascend is currently seeking a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician for a long-term contract opportunity with our client in Everette, Washington (State).

Overview

This role will provide support as part of a high functioning team of engineers focused on materials and fuels testing, characterization, and supplier qualification for next generation material and components for sodium cooled fast reactors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of hands-on laboratory-based materials testing and characterization activities to support the Natrium reactor
  • Perform metallography and characterization for a wide range of metallic and ceramic materials
  • Generate reports detailing characterization techniques and resulting data
  • Perform hands-on radiation work, including work inside of a glovebox
  • Operate and maintain materials focused laboratory equipment such as furnaces, polishing equipment, and metallography equipment
  • Assist with the design, fabrication, and operation of custom laboratory experiments
  • Coordinate receipt inspections of incoming materials, sectioning of materials, and shipping of materials with both on-site and off-site individuals

Qualifications

  • A Technology or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Preferred: A degree in Materials Science/Engineering/Technology, Metallurgical Engineering/Technology or a related technical discipline

Requirements

  • Demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience is required
  • Metallography and sample prep experience is required
  • A high attention to detail and quality control is required
  • Desired: Experience with radiation work, including working within gloveboxes
  • Desired: Strong communication skills
  • The service provider will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork

Preferred Requirements

  • SEM-EDS, microscopy, and other characterization experience
  • Experience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001, or others
  • Lab management experience (e.g., maintaining spaces and/or equipment)
