Talascend is currently seeking an Electrical Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Overview

This role involves developing construction work packages for the electric distribution system, supporting various projects including system upgrades, reliability improvements, and grid hardening. The engineer will assist in preparing design documents, performing engineering calculations, and supporting construction activities under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems from 4kV through 138kV
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis, pole loading, conductor sags, voltage drop, and fault currents
  • Support permitting processes and facilitate right-of-way acquisitions
  • Assist in developing bills of materials, estimating project costs, and customer advocacy activities
  • Support field inspections, site visits, and post-construction reviews to ensure standards compliance
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and recommend mitigations using engineering principles
  • Perform site visits and inspections as needed, traveling possibly overnight (10-20%)
  • Utilize GIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other client systems for design and project documentation

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree from an ABET-certified university with less than 2 years of relevant experience, or a non-engineering bachelor’s degree with less than 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with NESC standards, ESRI, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work
  • Ability to travel overnight as required
  • Ability to work outdoors and utilize personal vehicle for site visits
