Talascend is currently seeking a Powertrain Project Manager for a direct-hire opportunity remote.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer with 5–10 years of experience supporting combined cycle power generation projects. This role will focus on the design, development, and implementation of control systems for gas turbine, steam turbine, and balance-of-plant systems. The ideal candidate has strong EPC experience and a deep understanding of plant control philosophies, commissioning, and system integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review I&C design deliverables including:
    • P&IDs, instrument lists, loop diagrams, I/O lists, instrument specification, control logic, and wiring diagrams
    • Control narratives and functional design specifications (FDS)
  • Design and specify DCS/PLC-based control systems (e.g., Emerson Ovation, Siemens PCS7, GE Mark VIe, Allen-Bradley)
  • Support combined cycle systems, including:
    • Gas turbine controls
    • Steam turbine and HRSG controls
    • Balance of Plant (BOP) systems
  • Perform control system logic development
  • Lead or support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, process)
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and safety requirements
  • Support vendor coordination and technical bid evaluations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
  • 5–10 years of I&C engineering experience in power generation
  • Hands-on experience with combined cycle power plants (strongly preferred)
  • Experience working in an EPC environment (Engineering, Procurement, Construction)
  • Proficiency with major control systems:
    • DCS platforms (Emerson, Siemens, GE, ABB, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Control logic, interlocks, and plant automation
    • Field instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level)
  • Experience with commissioning/startup activities preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with SCADA, HMI development, or Energy Management Systems (EMS)
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity standards for control systems
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed
