Talascend is currently seeking a BI Developer for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.

Overview

  • This role involves developing high-impact Power BI reports and dashboards to support operational insights across multiple core areas, including Collections, Fleet, Post Collections, and Dispatch.
  • The BI Developer will manage the full lifecycle of report creation, from requirements gathering to final presentation, and will work closely with senior leadership to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop executive-grade dashboards focusing on UX/UI within Power BI that effectively communicate complex operational data.
  • Create advanced DAX measures and utilize Power Query (M) for data shaping and business logic implementation.
  • Manage the full report development lifecycle, ensuring quality and accuracy at every stage from prototype to deployment.
  • Administer Power BI workspaces and implement Row-Level Security (RLS) to control data access.
  • Lead requirements discovery sessions with senior leadership across collections, fleet, post collections, and dispatch to define KPIs and technical specifications.
  • Present reports and demos to executive stakeholders, translating data insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Track development progress within Azure DevOps, manage backlogs, and collaborate with teams using agile methodologies.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines leveraging MS Fabric (Lakehouse/Warehouse) and Snowflake to support real-time and batch reporting.
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust data models (Star Schema) ensuring data integrity and high performance.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on slow reports and optimize SQL queries in Snowflake and DAX expressions for sub-second response times.

Qualifications

  • Expert-level proficiency in Power BI (DAX, Power Query, Service).
  • Expert-level SQL skills for complex data transformation and validation.
  • Experience with Snowflake, including SnowSQL, partitioning, and warehouse optimization.
  • Familiarity with MS Fabric environment, including OneLake and Data Factory.
  • Strong soft skills such as executive presence, curiosity about business operations, and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure DevOps for project tracking.
  • Certification in PL-300 (Microsoft Data Analyst) or Snowflake Pro Core.
  • Prior experience in a client-facing or leadership-facing internal consultancy role.
  • Familiarity with waste management, logistics, or field operations.
