Maintenance Technician
Talascend is currently seeking a Maintenance Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in South Bend, Indiana.
Overview
The maintenance technician maintains and repairs their assigned facilities and the assets inside them, supporting operations, inspections, and maintenance processes for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and food equipment. They assist other technical staff and perform independent maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of facilities and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain lighting system bulbs and ballasts.
- Perform minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
- Troubleshoot and repair motors and pumps.
- Assist the operations team in maintenance and repair of building and equipment.
- General interior maintenance including HVAC/R equipment, auto/overhead doors, food equipment, and other tasks as assigned.
- Perform rooftop, refrigeration, auto/overhead doors, and food equipment preventative maintenance.
- Handle plumbing repairs.
- Participate in on-call and after-hours calls as needed.
- Ensure safety procedures are followed, maintain good housekeeping, and recognize hazards.
- Comply with all relevant codes, ordinances, policies, and hazardous materials procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training related to technical, safety, and operational processes.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Document work performance and materials procurement as directed.
- Support a wide range of conveyors and sortation systems.
- Troubleshoot and maintain equipment such as scanners, printers, scales, networks, drives, and UPS systems.
- Identify, maintain, and troubleshoot PLCs and related components.
- Assist mobile engineers as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to identify and maintain food service equipment.
- Ability to identify, maintain, and troubleshoot control network components.
- Experience with motor controls, including motor starters, variable frequency drives, and electrical components.
- Hands-on electrical troubleshooting experience, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
- Reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Ability to use SCADA systems and monitor KPIs.
- Capability to train others with lesser skills.
- Ability to access all areas of the facility.
- Understanding policies and procedures and relating them to others
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Physical ability to lift at least 80 lbs., climb ladders up to 30 ft, and perform mechanical and electrical tasks.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team.
- Must pass background, drug/alcohol, and MVR screening.
- Promote good housekeeping practices.
- Customer-focused with flexibility in work hours and days.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an applicable technical training program.
- At least one year of applicable experience in building repair and maintenance, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Experience with systems controls or programming.
- EPA certification (Type 1, 2, or Universal).
- Knowledge of UPS components troubleshooting.
- Experience with advanced automation control systems.
- UST Class B certification.
