Instrumentation and Control Verification Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking an Instrumentation and Control Verification Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Bellevue, Washington.
Overview
The role involves providing technical and planning leadership for verification and validation of digital instrumentation and control systems pertaining to advanced nuclear reactor technologies. The engineer will ensure activities are aligned with quality assurance plans, standards, and regulatory requirements, and may lead design efforts and oversee suppliers for high-temperature process systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead verification and validation activities for digital I&C systems in accordance with relevant plans, standards, and regulations.
- Interface with scientists and engineers internally and externally to coordinate system development and integration.
- Specify and integrate custom instrumentation with advanced control systems for Generation IV nuclear reactors.
- Design, oversee, or audit V&V plans, procedures, and reports for compliance with contractual and QA standards.
- Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping & instrument diagrams (P&ID).
- Use CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks for design deliverables.
- Develop and execute I&C system startup testing procedures.
- Coordinate technical delivery with teams or suppliers, providing oversight as needed.
- Maintain high standards of technical documentation, communication, and teamwork.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field.
- Relevant experience in instrumentation and control systems, verification, and validation.
- Experience designing and operating high-temperature (400°C and higher) processes.
- Experience with V&V plans, procedures, and reports, including oversight of supplier programs.
- Prior work in advanced reactors, sodium cooled fast reactors, or similar high hazard facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a team lead, project engineer, or project manager, with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with industrial process flow diagrams and piping & instrument diagrams.
- Technical proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or SolidWorks.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical excellence.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks requiring a multidisciplinary approach.
- Experience with formal I&C system startup testing procedures.
- Demonstrated integrity, openness in communication, and teamwork orientation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with or developing high-temperature high-hazard process systems.
- Experience with sodium fast reactors or other first-of-a-kind nuclear facilities.
- Leadership experience in technical delivery of complex projects.
