Geotechnical Field Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Geotechnical Field Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Reeves County, Texas.
Overview
This position is for a senior geotechnical field engineer to provide full-time field support during earthworks operations at a project site near Pecos, TX. The successful candidate will work independently, coordinating with various technical disciplines to support geotechnical investigations and earthworks activities.
Responsibilities
- Support the earthworks operations at the project site
- Develop and implement geotechnical investigations
- Originate and review geotechnical engineering designs and specifications
- Perform engineering calculations and prepare geotechnical studies in accordance with applicable standards
- Track scope of work, schedule, and budgets
- Coordinate with other technical disciplines and project teams
- Provide on-site technical supervision of earthworks activities
- Support soil and rock excavation activities
- Review vendor submittals and incorporate information into the design solutions
- Prepare or review technical memos and reports
Qualifications
- M.S. degree in geotechnical engineering or related discipline from an accredited university
- 11 years of progressive relevant experience in the field
- Advanced knowledge of earthworks, with emphasis on cold weather practices
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
- Knowledge of site and subsurface investigation, foundation design, and slope stability analysis
- Familiarity with industry guides, codes, and standards
- Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills
- Experience with geotechnical software such as Slope/W, Plaxis, etc., and Microsoft Office programs
- Previous experience working on earthworks for large-scale projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered geotechnical professional engineer (P.E.) or equivalent
- Related experience in geotechnics applied to earthworks design and construction
- Knowledge of relevant geotechnical software and computational tools
