Talascend is currently seeking a Radiological Systems Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Bellevue, Washington.

Overview

The radiological systems engineer will focus on integrating nuclear island system, structure, and component design with radiological analysis, shielding requirements, and safety considerations within a plant environment. They will act as a plant integration engineer for advanced nuclear reactor projects, ensuring alignment between analysis and design teams to meet regulatory and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate between design teams working on plant source term and radiological release analysis, risk analysis, plant operations, and shielding design teams
  • Work between analysis and design teams to ensure assumptions and considerations are aligned in radiological analysis and SSC design
  • Develop radiation protection and shielding design guidance and procedures
  • Generate program documents related to radiation protection, shielding, and training
  • Understand and ensure implementation of assumptions made by radiological analysis teams
  • Pursue optimization requests from operations and design teams for radiological analyses and shielding
  • Lead cross-disciplinary analysis and design decisions
  • Coordinate and review plant analyses and integrate results into plant design delivery
  • Support radiological licensing activities associated with safety analysis reports
  • Support design reviews during system and subsystem design development

Qualifications

  • B.S. in nuclear, mechanical, electrical, or related discipline from an accredited university
  • 10+ years of direct experience in design, analysis, and/or operations related to radiological protection or health physics at a commercial nuclear facility
  • Relevant experience in design of radiation protection elements in a nuclear application
  • Experience in shielding and source term analysis
  • Experience performing complex geometry analyses with Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) code
  • Experience in multi-discipline and multi-organization design integration
  • Previous experience with nuclear reactors, handling process systems, or similar high-performance systems
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence
  • Ability to coordinate and lead a design team with minimal supervision
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with competing objectives and resolve conflicts effectively
  • Experience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001
  • High degree of trust, integrity, openness in communication, and teamwork orientation
