Mechanical Designer
Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Designer for a contract opportunity with our client in Bellevue, Washington.
Overview
This role involves creating structural and mechanical design solutions, 3D CAD models, and engineering drawings for advanced nuclear reactors. The candidate will contribute to the conceptual and preliminary design development, utilizing extensive mechanical and structural design experience.
Responsibilities
- Produce robust CAD models that facilitate fast-paced design evolution and derivative creation leveraging advanced CAD modeling techniques and methodologies.
- Develop, maintain, and review highly complex mechanical designs.
- Proactively seek out, research, and propose unique solutions.
- Conduct trade studies to down-select the best option.
- Use model configurations to support analysis needs, such as structural, neutronics, thermal-hydraulic, radiological, and safety analyses.
- Document design progress, changes, and decisions via internal and external online collaboration workspaces.
- Create and review supporting technical presentations, documents, and reports as needed.
- Create and review engineering drawings (layout, detail, interface control, general arrangement, etc.) per ASME 14.1 and Y14.5 standards.
- Perform tolerance stack-up calculations.
- Check and review drawings for accuracy and conformance to standards via electronic redline process.
- Ensure and maintain configuration control of models and drawings through product data management software.
- Review design group generated documents and propose improvements.
- Contribute to the development of written guidance and standards.
Qualifications
- 15 years of demonstrated experience in the design and drafting of complex mechanical systems.
- CAD proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Demonstrated experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Experience creating and checking fabrication drawings.
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Experience in mechanical and machine design.
- Experience using a product data management (PDM) system.
- Experience with oversight of supplier engineering and manufacturing vendors is preferred but not required.
- Nuclear equipment design experience is preferred but not required.
- Creative thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work multiple tasks concurrently with minimum supervision.
- Organized, detail oriented, with excellent writing and communication skills.
- High degree of trustworthiness and integrity, open communication, respect, and teamwork orientation.
