Software Quality Assurance Procedure Specialist
Talascend is currently seeking a Software Quality Assurance Procedure Specialist for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
This role involves developing, documenting, and maintaining software quality assurance procedures that govern the full software lifecycle in a highly regulated nuclear environment. The specialist collaborates across multiple departments to ensure procedures are compliant, clear, and operationally effective.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and execute plans for creating, organizing, and tracking software quality assurance and administrative procedures throughout the full software lifecycle.
- Translate regulatory and technical requirements into detailed, role-specific procedural content with clear acceptance criteria.
- Ensure procedures comply with applicable standards, regulations, and standards such as NRC, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, and NQA-1-2022 Subpart 2.7.
- Maintain traceability between procedure content and regulatory requirements, including managing a Requirements Traceability Matrix.
- Coordinate cross-disciplinary review of procedures involving IT, QA, engineering, operations, procurement, finance, and legal.
- Facilitate structured review cycles, comment resolution, and approval processes for procedures.
- Support recordkeeping and document control activities within electronic document management systems.
- Engage with industry peers, vendors, and other organizations to identify best practices and innovative technologies.
- Conduct or support audits and assessments to identify improvements in the SQA program.
- Provide training and guidance on procedure development standards and SQA expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience in nuclear industry.
- 5 or more years of experience in nuclear SQA program ownership, controlled procedure development, or nuclear IT governance within a nuclear power plant or advanced reactor program.
- Working knowledge of ASME NQA-1 Subpart 2.7 software lifecycle requirements.
- Understanding of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B quality assurance criteria as applied to software and IT systems in a nuclear environment.
- Ability to interpret regulatory standards and produce accessible procedural content for diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building an SQA program or implementing a procedure set from a limited or zero baseline.
- Hands-on experience with workflow integration platforms such as NextAxiom HyperService or similar in a nuclear or regulated environment.
- Familiarity with enterprise IT platforms like EAM or CMMS (e.g., IBM Maximo, AssetSuite), ERP (Oracle, SAP), LMS (SAP SuccessFactors), and electronic document management systems.
- Experience with nuclear corrective action programs and integrating SQA problem reporting with condition adverse to quality processes.
- Knowledge of NITSL-SQA-2005-02, NIRMA TG-16, EPRI TR-1025243, or NRC RG 1.231 guidance for nuclear IT software quality.
- Application of LEAN, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies to nuclear programs.
