Environmental Specialist
Talascend is currently seeking an environmental specialist for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Mountain Pass, California.
Overview
The environmental specialist will assist in performing, collecting, and analyzing diverse emissions from various facilities while adhering to high safety, environmental, and ethical standards. The role involves preparing detailed field reports and documentation related to asbestos, lead, industrial hygiene, and microbial projects, as well as supporting hazardous waste programs and projects based on state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting on-site testing of materials, processes, and pollution sources
- Prepare, maintain, and calibrate testing equipment and supplies for accurate testing
- Oversee consultants and contractors to ensure proper testing procedures are followed
- Provide accurate field and lab data to develop test reports and conclusions, including quality control and assurance
- Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
- Assist in maintaining accurate records and data for inspections and audits
- Ensure organization complies with current safety regulations
- Help evaluate procedures, facilities, and equipment to identify unsafe conditions and recommend improvements
- Assist operations and management in reviewing incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions
Qualifications
- BS degree in environmental health and safety, science, or engineering
- 3+ years of experience in a safety or environmental specialist role or equivalent experience (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license to operate company vehicles

Shift
This position does not specify a particular shift; work conditions include outdoor environmental exposure at an open pit mine or manufacturing/chemical plant setting, with potential exposure to weather extremes, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, and airborne particles.
