Talascend is currently seeking a CNC Machinist for a contract opportunity with our client in Torrance, California.

Overview

The CNC Machinist will operate and set up CNC lathes and mills in a high-volume, low-volume production environment, managing multiple machines and verifying quality to meet tight tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and set up CNC lathes and mills, including Boring jaws and first article inspection
  • Perform machining with materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium
  • Meet specified tolerances, including .0002 on bore and runout tolerances
  • Manage multiple machines simultaneously to support work cell activities
  • Verify and sign off on all aspects of operation, including linear, outside diameter, inside diameter, and runout
  • Utilize manual gauges and air gauging as needed to verify tight tolerances
  • Adjust G code programs for small updates based on prior programs and best practices
  • Follow blueprint specifications and design sketches for dimensional accuracy
  • Maintain safety protocols, including handling physical risks and lifting requirements exceeding 30 lbs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • At least 2-4 years of experience in CNC machining or related field
  • Experience with CNC lathes, including Ikegai TU15 models, and early Fanuc controllers
  • Knowledge of setting up and running production jobs
  • Ability to manage multiple machines and verify quality independently
  • Understanding of precision measurement tools and techniques, including air gauging
  • Basic knowledge of blueprints and design sketches
  • Ability to work under supervision and follow established guidelines
