Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Frisco, Texas.

Overview

This role involves supporting electric utility design engineering projects, including developing work packages, performing engineering calculations, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Candidates will gain experience in both field and office environments, working on diverse distribution system projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis, conductor sags, and voltage drop
  • Develop permitting documents for different authorities
  • Support construction activities, including inspections and post-construction reviews
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements
  • Assist with the assessment and development of design packages for complex cable and conduit projects
  • Travel to sites as needed for inspections and support

Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties through relevant experience, training, or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar
  • Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS
  • Knowledge of NESC standards and design standards
