Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Chicago, Illinois.

Overview

This role involves supporting electric utility design engineering projects, including developing work packages, performing engineering calculations, and supporting construction activities in dense urban environments. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and diverse project experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and client standards
  • Travel to site locations for inspections and field work as necessary
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis, conductor sag, voltage drop, and flicker
  • Develop permitting documents for local authorities
  • Support construction activities including post-construction reviews
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and develop design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in urban environments

Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar
  • Experience with CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS
  • Experience with NESC and design standards
  • Professional attributes such as collaborative attitude, ability to work with limited supervision, positive attitude, and professional demeanor

This is a Chicago, Illinois-based role requiring travel for site visits and field work.
