Talascend is currently seeking a Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.

Overview

The distribution engineer will be responsible for electric utility design engineering, developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems, and providing engineering support during construction. The role involves both field and office work, ensuring projects meet engineering and construction standards while maintaining high-quality deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems
  • Review work provided by clients and assess scope requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis, guying calculations, and voltage drop assessments
  • Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and contribute to mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate conflicting utility designs and assess large, complex projects in urban environments
  • Perform field site visits to collect data and develop work packages

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in electric distribution design engineering
  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, or O-Calc
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel
  • Willingness to perform field and office work, including outdoor environments
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NESC standards, ESRI, AutoCAD, or MicroStation, and GIS
  • Knowledge of structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling, and fault current calculations
  • Experience with work management and job estimating software
  • Professional attributes such as collaboration, inclusivity, a positive attitude, and professional demeanor

The shift varies based on project needs, with some responsibilities requiring outdoor fieldwork.
