Associate Distribution Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Framingham, Massachusetts.
Overview
This role involves electric utility design engineering, focusing on developing work packages for distribution systems, performing engineering calculations, supporting construction activities, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and hands-on experience in various aspects of distribution project design and management.
Responsibilities
- Develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems from 4kV through 138kV
- Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis, conductor sags, voltage drop, and flicker assessments
- Develop permitting documents for different authorities having jurisdiction
- Support construction activities, including site inspections and post-construction reviews
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation strategies
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and develop work packages for complex projects in urban environments
- Support field work as needed, including site inspections and travel to project locations
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel, with travel expenses reimbursed
- Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar
- Knowledge of CAD tools, MicroStation, and GIS
- Experience with NESC standards and design standards
- Understanding of utility and distribution system standards and procedures
This is a full-time contract position based in Framingham, Massachusetts, with some travel required to project sites. The role involves both fieldwork and office-based engineering tasks, offering a dynamic work environment and opportunities for professional development.
