Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.

Overview

The role involves designing electrical distribution systems, supporting project development, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards in both field and office environments. The position offers diverse work experiences across various areas of utility design engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, focusing on programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspections, joint use, and reports.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and develop work permits, easements, and ROW applications.
  • Conduct engineering calculations including structural analysis, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop, and flicker.
  • Support field inspections and return to the office for engineering design work.
  • Prepare permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Provide engineering support during and after construction to ensure standards are met.
  • Perform root cause analysis of outages and recommend mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel, with travel reimbursements applicable
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations related to structural analysis, conductor specifications, and voltage calculations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar
  • Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS
  • Knowledge of NESC standards and design standards
