Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Carmel, Indiana.
Overview
This role involves supporting electric utility design engineering projects, focusing on distribution systems from 4kV to 138kV, with responsibilities including developing work packages, performing engineering calculations, and supporting construction activities in both field and office settings.
Responsibilities
- Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems
- Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis, conductor sags, tensions, voltage drop, and flicker
- Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction
- Support construction activities, including site inspections and post-construction reviews
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements
- Assist in assessing and developing design packages for complex cable and conduit projects in urban environments
- Utilize customer GIS and WMS systems for designing work packages
- Support compliance with safety, design, and quality standards
- Travel to sites as needed for inspections and field work
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel
- Willingness to perform both field and office work
- Ability to work outdoors occasionally
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar
- Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, or GIS
- Knowledge of NESC and design standards
