Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Kansas City, Missouri.

Overview

The role involves electric utility design engineering, supporting various distribution projects in both field and office environments. Candidates will develop work packages, perform engineering calculations, and support construction activities to ensure quality and safety standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, including programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, joint use, and inspection reports
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop, and flicker
  • Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction
  • Support construction activities, including site inspections and post-construction reviews
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and develop mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and develop design packages for Cable/Conduit projects in dense urban environments
  • Assist with work permit development, easements, ROW applications, and design of medium voltage switchgear and system protection

Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar
  • Experience with CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS
  • Experience with NESC standards and design standards
  • Knowledge of distribution design standards and practices
