Talascend is currently seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Birmingham, Alabama.
Overview
The role involves performing microbiological testing and environmental monitoring in a laboratory setting, ensuring compliance with GMP and GLP standards, and maintaining accurate documentation of all activities.
Responsibilities
- Perform environmental monitoring of classified areas using air sampling and surface sampling methods to detect bacteria and fungi
- Test utilities such as city water, pre-treat water, clean steam, Water for Injection, nitrogen, and process air for microbial count and endotoxins
- Utilize classical microbiological methods for microorganism identification
- Conduct validation activities including biological indicator recovery and endotoxin testing
- Analyze data and enter results into microbiology information management systems
- Document test results and conclusions in a GMP-compliant manner
- Ensure laboratory activities conform to quality systems and safety policies
- Maintain a safe laboratory environment by following MSDS guidelines and reporting incidents
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biological sciences, or related field
- Minimum 1 year of experience in clinical, academic, or industrial/pharmaceutical microbiology laboratories
- Experience in microbiological assays and testing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities
- Proficiency in GMP and GLP practices
- Excellent computer skills including spreadsheets and databases
- Ability to use a respirator
- Ability to work with microorganisms and hot liquids
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in environmental monitoring and trending
- Experience in testing utilities
