Talascend is currently seeking a Controls Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Pontiac, Michigan.
Overview
We are looking for a skilled controls engineer to join a facilities maintenance team, responsible for maintaining and optimizing building automation and control systems to ensure seamless operations.
Responsibilities
- Respond to and resolve preventive maintenance tasks, work orders, and service calls daily.
- Manage building management systems (BMS), including Tridium platforms, in coordination with contractors.
- Create and maintain backups of all PLC, HMI, and VFD software parameters monthly.
- Provide emergency after-hours support for critical facility systems as needed.
- Prepare weekly and monthly EPA reports for the environmental team.
- Develop and update technical documentation and maintain facility drawings and logic repositories.
- Complete problem-solving documentation and safety reports monthly.
- Train and mentor maintenance technicians on systems and procedures.
- Assist with supervisory tasks, including permits, onboarding, and communication with client leadership.
- Coordinate weekend coverage for off-site incident command duties.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead controls projects focusing on improvement and cost savings.
- Research and recommend alternative parts and equipment options.
- Manage and maintain operational laptops with required software and updates.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience with industrial control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and building automation systems.
- Proficiency with PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).
- Experience with building management systems, particularly Tridium.
- Strong understanding of VFDs, HMI systems, and SCADA applications.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings.
- Maximo CMMS experience required.
- Proficiency with Corrigo work order management system.
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certification required.
- First Aid/CPR certification required.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.
- EPA compliance training experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Client Workday, Client Connect, and Cority experience preferred.
