Talascend is currently seeking a Steelmaking Process Lead for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Calvert, Alabama.

Overview

This role involves leading process support for steelmaking operations, ensuring production of high-quality steels by adhering to up-to-date procedures and industry best practices. The position requires collaboration with various teams to optimize productivity, quality, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate steelmaking performance, including production, cost, and quality KPIs; develop countermeasures for non-achievement.
  • Optimize steelmaking productivity, capacity, energy, and consumption by monitoring industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with the technology team to perform product trials and provide process expertise for improvement projects.
  • Interface and communicate with maintenance and other steelmaking facility teams, including EAF, LMF, RH, and Refractory teams.
  • Write and update work instructions for steelmaking operations and organize relevant HIRAC reviews.
  • Take ownership of seeking and implementing corrective actions for process outliers.
  • Coordinate steelmaking activities with the Steelmaking Area Manager, Team Manager, and specialists.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement activities, including data collection and trend analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, participating in incident root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain steelmaking inventory needs and count orders accordingly.
  • Demonstrate company values such as safety, teamwork, accountability, relationships, and sustainability.
  • Foster a safe and healthy work environment, ensuring quality commitments are met.
  • Promote trust and respect within the team environment and maintain a working knowledge of relevant ISO standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, metallurgical, materials, chemical, or mechanical engineering.
  • Basic technical knowledge of steelmaking.
  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Advanced technical knowledge of steelmaking is preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of Melt Shop is preferred.
  • Experience working as an engineer, specialist, or similar in steelmaking.
  • Computer skills including SAP are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.
