Talascend is currently seeking a Certified Welding Inspector for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Haltom City, TX.

Overview

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring the highest degree of product quality through visual welding inspection of poles and heavy structural steel assemblies, verifying compliance with specified detail drawings and industry standards. Collaborating with the company-wide QA/QC team, the inspector maintains quality assurance and supports continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspection of welded joints at the assigned plant to ensure compliance with customer specifications and quality procedures.
  • Monitor and document inspection results, preparing necessary certification documentation.
  • Conduct in-process weld inspections on poles and heavy structural steel welded assemblies.
  • Interpret drawings, customer specifications, and standards of moderate complexity.
  • Assist the Quality Control Manager in administering the AISC program and prepare the shop for annual audits.
  • Support QA/QC team in organizing inspection work and addressing non-conformances in a timely manner.
  • Work with shop employees and other inspectors to clarify QC issues and ensure standards are followed.
  • Address quality issues related to non-conforming materials or components to maintain production flow.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support company safety and quality policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the welding of heavy steel assemblies, preferably with inspection experience.
  • Level II Certification in U.T. or M.T., with successful completion of academic hours and endorsement on certification where applicable.
  • Ability to read and understand shop drawings, especially weld symbols.
  • Basic knowledge of AISC and AWS national codes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to pass drug screening, background check, and physical exam (including vision and audiogram).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or other continuous improvement techniques.
  • Ability to contribute positively to teamwork and process improvements.
