Talascend is currently seeking a CNC Machinist for a contract opportunity with our client in Torrance, California.
Overview
The role involves operating and setting up CNC machinery in a high-mix, low-volume production environment, primarily working with aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium materials. The machinist is responsible for verifying the quality of parts and managing multiple machines to meet tight tolerances.
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC lathes (Ikegai TU15) and mills, performing setups and adjustments as needed
- Verify part dimensions and tolerances, including linear, outside diameter, inside diameter, and runout, and sign off on operations
- Use blueprint and design sketches to ensure finished parts meet specifications
- Manage up to three machines simultaneously to support work cell operations
- Update G-code programs as necessary based on established best practices or operator preferences
- Possibly work with air gauging to verify tight tolerance bores
- Ensure adherence to safety and quality protocols, including managing physical risks and lifting requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- At least 2-4 years of relevant machining experience
- Experience with CNC lathes and mills, including setup and operation
- Knowledge of producing parts within tolerances of .0002
- Ability to verify parts without first-piece inspection and sign off on quality
- Familiarity with blueprints, design sketches, and G-code programming (basic updates)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment, managing multiple machines
- Strong attention to safety, especially while lifting and working with physical risks
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with air gauging to verify tight tolerance bores
- Certifications related to machining or manufacturing field
