Talascend is currently seeking a CNC Programmer for a contract opportunity with our client in Greenville, South Carolina.
Overview
This role involves 2nd shift CNC programming, shop support, and process development, primarily working with large-scale CNC machinery such as VTLs, VBMs, gantry mills, and turn/grind centers. The programmer will generate and verify CNC programs, support process improvements, and provide operator training to ensure efficient shop operations.
Responsibilities
- Program, process develop, and support CNC machining operations for large equipment using NX-CAM or other software
- Create CNC programs for multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, and EDM processes
- Verify CNC programs with verification software prior to shop floor release
- Incorporate on-machine probing routines for part and process validation
- Support machine setup, operator training, and troubleshooting on CNC equipment
- Support tooling and fixturing requirements for CNC machines
- Develop workstation instructions and methods to address CNC-related issues
- Lead process improvement projects focusing on safety, quality, cost, and delivery
- Communicate effectively with team members and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of experience with graphical based CAM system CNC programming
- Experience with Siemens NX CAM preferred
- Experience creating 5-axis CNC programs using CAM software
- At least 1 year of experience with high-level machine controls, sub-routines, probing routines, and variable-based programming
- Hands-on machining experience, including setup and proving complex first-piece programs on large-format equipment (up to 2.5m)
- Experience machining nickel-based superalloys such as Inconel, Rene, Hastelloy, etc.
- Proficiency with Vericut or similar CNC verification software
- Familiarity with multiple machine controls including Fanuc, Haas, Okuma, and Siemens
- Strong problem-solving skills, shop math, and interpretation of drawing requirements
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience with high-level controls like sub-routines, probing routines, and CLM (closed loop machining)
- Extensive hands-on machining background, particularly with large-format equipment and superalloys
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and in a team
