Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Warren, Michigan.
Overview
This role involves performing equipment setup, operation, testing, and process checks in a controlled lab environment to support battery testing and development projects. The technician will work in a clean room setting, ensuring high-quality standards and safety practices are maintained while contributing to innovative battery chemistry and design testing.
Responsibilities
- Perform tasks related to equipment setup, operation, cleaning, testing, and process checks to ensure reliable functionality.
- Utilize PPE and work in a clean room environment to maintain safety and quality standards.
- Mix chemicals according to specified recipes and perform scheduled equipment maintenance and cleaning.
- Observe equipment functionality, troubleshoot issues, and maintain detailed records of work performed and data collected.
- Recommend process revisions, document best practices, and use data collection to improve processes through corrective actions.
- Identify and eliminate operational waste using lean manufacturing tools and execute problem-solving techniques.
- Maintain good housekeeping, safety practices, and coordinate with engineering personnel and support teams.
- Participate in team meetings, coordinate maintenance activities, and ensure equipment and hardware resources are available for incoming work requests.
Qualifications
- High school diploma is required; an associate’s degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical field or equivalent experience preferred.
- At least 2-4 years of working experience in a lab/testing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of complex mechanical, chemical, and/or electrical concepts.
- Working knowledge of computer applications used in lab or manufacturing settings.
- Ability to interpret engineering instructions accurately and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated analytical skills to address complex problems.
- Interpersonal skills essential for working effectively within a team environment.
- Willingness to work any shift and adhere to safety and operational protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a chemical laboratory environment.
- Knowledge of vehicle battery systems and safe work practices.
- Familiarity with test equipment, measuring, and recording devices.
- Electrical and mechanical diagnostics and repair skills.
- Machining and/or welding experience.
- Implementation and use of lean manufacturing tools and processes.
