Talascend is currently seeking a Logistics Project Manager for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
The Lead Logistics Project Manager is responsible for managing a regional logistics project portfolio, ensuring transportation cost reduction and efficient shipment coordination. They support inbound and outbound logistics, oversee project plans, develop strategies, and collaborate with stakeholders to optimize transportation and ensure timely delivery.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute inbound and/or outbound global logistics functions.
- Monitor purchase orders and coordinate with buyers, vendors, freight forwarders, and carriers for timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Act as the customer point of contact for outbound project logistics and oversee project plans and freight estimates.
- Conduct RFQ’s for internal stakeholders to provide cost and cycle scenarios.
- Develop logistics strategies to optimize cycle costs within baseline estimates.
- Manage and report on full project lifecycle estimated cost at completion (EAC).
- Support logistics cost strategies, forecasting, and market data analysis to ensure cost competitiveness.
- Maintain project logistics risks and opportunities to mitigate leakage and identify savings opportunities.
- Identify and implement best cost solutions regarding transport mode, route, carrier selection, and cargo consolidation.
- Maintain shipment schedules and develop shipment status reports for key stakeholders.
- Oversee inbound container receipts, ensure timely delivery, and monitor in-transit inventory reports.
- Track and manage demurrage and detention costs, ensuring charge accuracy.
- Record shipment details accurately and ensure data reliability for stakeholders.
- Oversee documentation processes including commercial invoices, packing slips, B/L, and regulatory documents.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers to resolve issues.
- Assist in regional transport programs, audits, and recordkeeping activities.
- Support import activities and negotiate freight contracts where applicable.
- Communicate cost changes, shipment issues, and supply concerns promptly.
- Build and maintain good relationships with carriers and service providers.
- Develop international routing instructions and supply transport drawings to carriers.
- Monitor KPIs, analyze trends, and implement improvement actions.
- Handle escalations related to quality, coordinate root cause analyses, and recommend solutions for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
- 5+ years of experience in logistics, project management, or supply chain functions
- International logistics experience including transportation, customs, and trade agreements
- Advanced knowledge of English; proficiency in an additional language is a plus
- Proven leadership, facilitation skills, and ability to work independently
- Comfortable in matrixed, cross-functional environments
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results
- Strong multitasking, problem-solving, communication, planning, and organizational skills
- Competent in MS Excel, PowerPoint
