Talascend is currently seeking a Validation Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Plymouth, Michigan.
Overview
A validation engineer supports testing and validation activities for internal combustion engines in a laboratory environment. This role involves executing test plans, analyzing data, and contributing to continuous improvement processes within the development and test department.
Responsibilities
- Execute validation test campaigns for ICE engines following defined procedures and safety standards.
- Perform daily activities in the test cell, including test setup, monitoring, troubleshooting, and coordinating with technicians.
- Manage validation test plans: scheduling, tracking progress, documenting deviations, and ensuring completion of required test steps.
- Conduct detailed tear-down inspections, including dimensional checks, wear assessments, failure documentation, and component condition reporting.
- Analyze test results, ensuring data quality through established post-processing tools; prepare preliminary evaluations and recommendations.
- Draft technical reports for internal stakeholders and support senior engineers in customer-facing documentation.
- Contribute to the improvement of testing methods, validation practices, and laboratory workflows.
- Support interns, technicians, and junior engineers in daily lab activities when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2/3 years of experience in ICE engine testing, powertrain validation, or test lab operations.
- Strong hands-on skills in test cell operation and troubleshooting of engine testing equipment.
- Experience managing structured validation test plans (endurance, performance, durability, emissions-related testing).
- Proficiency with data analysis and post-processing tools (e.g., Concerto, Uniplot).
- Ability to conduct structured tear-down analyses with clear documentation of findings.
- Familiarity with ECU interfaces and calibration tools (e.g., ATI Vision, ETAS INCA) is considered a plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Fluency in English.
