Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Overview
This role involves supporting electric utility design engineering, working on projects that include developing work packages for overhead, underground, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects, primarily utilizing GIS and WMS systems. Candidates will gain experience in various areas such as project management, design standards, and field and office work coordination.
Responsibilities
- Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV
- Ensure compliance with safety, design, and quality standards
- Travel to sites for inspections and perform engineering design work upon return to the office
- Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis, conductor sags, voltage drop, and flicker calculations
- Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation strategies using engineering principles and design
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and develop work packages for complex cable/conduit projects in urban environments
Qualifications
- Completed Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for job-related travel
- Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar
- Experience with CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS
- Experience with NESC standards and design standards
