Talascend is currently seeking a Controls Designer for a contract opportunity with our client in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Overview
The protection and control designer will lead and execute the design of protection and control aspects of flexible AC transmission system projects. The role involves creating detailed design documentation for various protection and control solutions within a specific portfolio, supporting project specifications, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Design custom protection and control solutions, including physical layouts, schematics, logic diagrams, wiring/interconnection, grounding, cable schedules, and other required hardware for specific projects.
- Develop bills of material for all designs and ensure quality and consistency across all documentation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of standard control documentation for equipment including protection and control systems.
- Coordinate with offshore design resources and project team members on technical matters to meet project specifications, budgets, and schedules.
- Interface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, control engineers, civil engineers, electrical designers, project managers, and engineering leaders.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of cost reduction programs, including vendor selection, design improvements, process automation, and new product introduction.
- Utilize proficiency with Excel, Word, AutoCAD Electrical, and MicroStation to support design activities.
- Support project quality procedures and initiatives, including aspects of ISO9001.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university or college with 2 years of experience; or an associate's degree with 5 years of relevant experience.
- Excellent personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Word, AutoCAD Electrical, and MicroStation.
- Knowledge of electrical and controls drawing practices.
- Experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, AUS, CSA, and NESC standards and codes.
- Ability to design packages even without clear customer specifications.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated creativity and accountability for team results, delivering high-quality results on time and within budget.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical and controls drawing experience.
- Proficiency with standard drafting practices.
