Talascend is currently seeking a Distribution Design Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Seattle, Washington.
Overview
The Distribution Design Engineer will be responsible for performing design engineering tasks for electric utility customers, including developing work packages for various projects, managing scope, schedule, and budget, and coordinating with clients and field teams to ensure high-quality design deliverables. This role involves both office-based design work and customer-site visits to collect field data.
Responsibilities
- Perform design engineering for electric utility customers, including developing work packages for overhead, underground, URD, Make Ready, and street light projects
- Use system tools such as DDS, GDT, GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo to develop and review designs
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget for assigned work packages
- Review engineering design packages with clients and conduct functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up
- Perform scope analysis and maintain adherence to schedules, advocating client priorities
- Initiate and contribute to workflow process improvements to ensure efficiency and high-quality standards
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other design requirements in dense urban environments
- Develop work permits, easements, and ROW applications as needed
- Conduct customer-site visits to gather field data to support design development
Qualifications
- 4+ years of relevant experience in electric distribution design engineering
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering (additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree)
- Experience working directly with electric utility or electric utility consulting firms on design engineering projects
- Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with MicroStation and electrical distribution design tools
- Experience with work management and project estimating software
- Knowledge of structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, protective device coordination, and electric demand and fault current calculations
