Talascend is currently seeking a Welding Equipment Reliability Specialist for a direct hire opportunity with our client near Mobile, Alabama.

Overview

The ideal candidate will support the Non-grain Oriented Electric Steel facility’s automated laser welders by analyzing, troubleshooting, recommending, and overseeing repairs and improvements of all electro-mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and continuous improvement of the reliability of automated laser solid state strip welders and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of complex electromechanical systems including hydraulics, gearboxes, laser optics, PLC, HMI’s, motor drives, and communications.
  • Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis for delays within a team environment and execute Corrective Actions to mitigate future occurrences.
  • Initiating and/or implementing continuous improvement of the equipment reliability by developing and reviewing PM’s, improving functional location details and material master data in SAP.
  • Conducting maintenance activities utilizing SAP software.
  • Training, coaching, and mentoring maintenance technicians and operations team members.
  • Developing and auditing Energy Control Procedures to ensure the safety of team members performing work on mill equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with laser welders in industrial environment

Requirements

  • Understanding of standard mechanical engineering principles and practices, drawings, and fine tolerances.
  • Competency or ability to learn PLC programming platforms.
  • Competency or ability to learn power distribution systems, motors, drives, sensors, actuator systems, and communication protocols.
  • Competency or ability to learn hydraulic, mechanical drive systems, and alignments.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of industrial solid state laser welding systems and optics.
  • Knowledge of process automation applications.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, power transmission, and complex machine alignments.
  • Knowledge of SAP or other CMMS systems.
  • Knowledge of IBA, or similar process trending software.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance practices.
  • Ability to interact with multiple stakeholders, work in small and large teams.
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Anticipates and adopts innovations in business-building digital and technology applications.
  • Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
  • Ensure working knowledge of competencies as defined in ISO 14001, IATF 16949, and ISO 17025.
  • Travel both local and abroad will be required for training and best practice visits.

Shift

Onsite role with standard 5 day workweek.
