Facilities And Building Maintenance Technician
Talascend is currently seeking a Facilities And Building Maintenance Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Overview
The Facilities & Building Maintenance Technician supports the maintenance and operation of a commercial pharmaceutical R&D facility. This entry-level position provides hands-on experience maintaining building systems, laboratory infrastructure, and general facility operations while learning from senior technicians.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine building inspections and basic maintenance rounds under supervision.
- Assist with preventative maintenance tasks on HVAC equipment, lighting systems, and building infrastructure.
- Perform general facility maintenance including minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
- Support laboratory infrastructure maintenance including fume hoods, emergency eyewash stations, and safety equipment testing.
- Monitor building automation system alerts and report abnormal conditions to senior staff.
- Assist with basic HVAC maintenance tasks including filter changes, belt adjustments, and equipment cleaning.
- Support utility system operations under direct supervision of senior technicians.
- Help maintain building environmental conditions critical for R&D operations.
- Complete work orders and maintenance logs in the CMMS system accurately and timely.
- Assist with inventory management and parts procurement.
- Document completed tasks, materials used, and time spent on assignments.
- Maintain organized tool and equipment storage areas.
- Strictly adhere to all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols.
- Follow pharmaceutical industry safety standards and good manufacturing practices (GMP).
- Participate in required safety training and emergency response drills.
- Report safety hazards and near-miss incidents immediately.
- Work closely with senior technicians to develop technical skills and knowledge.
- Participate in on-the-job training programs for building systems and equipment.
- Attend training sessions on pharmaceutical facility requirements and compliance standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Vocational/Technical training in facilities maintenance, HVAC, or related field preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities operations, or related field preferred.
Requirements
- Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
- Familiarity with common hand tools and basic test equipment.
- Basic computer skills for work order systems and documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed procedures.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn pharmaceutical industry standards and practices.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable working in various environments including mechanical rooms, laboratories, and outdoor areas.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights with proper safety equipment.
- Capability to stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, and kneel for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for detailed maintenance tasks.
- Valid driver's license.
Shift
6am - 2pm EST, 8am - 4pm EST. Full-time position with standard business hours. Occasional overtime may be required for emergency response or project support. Must be available for periodic on-call duties as needed to support building operations.
