Talascend is currently seeking a Lead Operating Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Carson, California.

Overview

The Lead Operating Engineer will be responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across various systems at a large-scale facility in Carson, California. The role emphasizes HVAC expertise and technical proficiency in multiple craft areas to ensure the smooth operation of the facility's infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Support activities, building structure, and development projects at the facility.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and monitor repairs of mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire safety, hydraulic, and control systems.
  • Maintain responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, contracted maintenance, and general upkeep.
  • Conduct cleaning, inspection, calibration, and parts replacement to optimize system performance.
  • Support the gathering and submission of annual operational and capital planning documents.
  • Work at heights up to 26 feet, including overhead work on ladders, and handle objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Manage and update daily tasks through electronic work order systems.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks such as painting, locksmith work, tenant services, and general maintenance.
  • Ensure safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and keep detailed records of work performed.
  • Attend virtual engineering team meetings and support operational reviews.
  • Evaluate vendors and suppliers for quality and pricing.
  • Mentor and lead other building engineers technically and professionally.
  • Complete annual online safety training and other required certifications.
  • Provide on-call support every other week and work Saturday and Sunday shifts during on-call periods.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of commercial facility maintenance experience
  • Possess CFC universal certification
  • Certification in at least two of the following disciplines: electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, hydraulics, or central utility plant operations
  • Proficient in using laptops and smartphones to manage electronic work orders and communication
  • Ability to use basic computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to independently plan and execute work assignments
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in a calm, safe, and effective manner
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and perform tasks at heights up to 26 feet
  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Dependable, professional, self-driven, and a team player
  • Ability to work on rotating on-call duties including weekends and shifts
  • Must possess the mental and physical capacity to perform primary job duties
