Talascend is currently seeking an  Associate Distribution Engineer  for a contract opportunity with our client in  Orlando, Florida .

Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing work packages for electrical distribution projects, utilizing customer GIS and WMS systems, and supporting field and office engineering activities. The role involves ensuring project quality, compliance with safety and design standards, and supporting construction and maintenance efforts in dense urban environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, focused on programmatic tasks such as overloaded transformers, inspections, and joint use projects.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and manage field and office engineering tasks.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop, and flicker assessments.
  • Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Support construction activities, including site inspections and post-construction reviews to ensure standards are met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and implement mitigation strategies using engineering principles and design.
  • Travel to sites as required, perform inspections, and perform engineering design work in office settings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel, with expenses reimbursed at IRS-approved rates.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar.
  • Experience with CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
  • Knowledge of NESC standards and other design standards.
