Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer in Pittsburgh, PA for a contract opportunity with our client.

Overview

The role involves supporting the design and construction of electrical distribution systems, ensuring safety, quality, and standards compliance in a dynamic work environment. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and diverse project experience in both field and office settings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems from 4kV through 138kV.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities, assess and develop complex cable/conduit project packages in urban environments.
  • Prepare permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis, conductor sags, voltage drop, and flicker.
  • Support field activities, including site inspections and post-construction reviews.
  • Assist with work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
  • Support activities involving system protection, coordination, and design of vault switchgear.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and develop mitigation strategies using engineering principles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel (reimbursed at IRS rates).
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, with outdoor work experience a plus.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar.
  • Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
  • Knowledge of NESC standards and design standards.
